Letter of Thanks From LOACC

We so enjoyed our time with you on Wednesday!  Please click on the link below to read the letter from LOACC.  Have a great Thanksgiving!

Letter from LOACC

An Opportunity to Lead

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
We received the following from this week's day chair, Ann Adrian, and thought of all of you:

Dear Leslie and Sara,

You two have your ears to the ground and might know one or two people who have non profit board skills who would like to consider membership on our Lake Oswego Meal Network Advisory Board. This is the board that raises funds for meals on wheels and our congregate meals (the ones you all served so graciously on Weds! I haven’t mentioned how cool that was, have I?!)

The Board is a working board and actively solicits funds through its major fundraiser with New Seasons Mountain Park and writing grants, etc.

Thanks for the headwork!

Ann

Looking for a way to help in LO?

Here's a message from our own Pastor Keith with a great opportunity!
Hello Sara and Leslie,

If you know of anyone wanting a project here are three things that will make an impact on families in need in LO and then the greater Portland Area:

#1.  We have NEW coats!  They're from Aeropastale again and unfortunately all black.  I'm setting aside 250 or so for Lake Oswego and surrounding suburbs on the West side.  The rest will be moved throughout Portland and the East side.  I'd like to receive more "gently worn coats" (especially small children's) as well to add some variety and color for people coming in to shop a free coat in early December.  We're offering the first round of coats to families who live, study, work or worship in Lake Oswego.  People can stop by the church to shop on Wednesdays between 10am to 2pm or upon appointment by calling the church office.

Last year you helped us distribute over 2,400 coats to youth and children throughout the Greater Portland area after we first served those in our community.

#2.  We need these last food items to finish filling over 300 food baskets by November 18.
Hope Community Church and I are again working with Portland CityTeam to help fill over 300 food baskets for the Holiday Season to Families in need.
Donations can be dropped off at Hope Community Church on Wednesdays between 10am and 2pm or upon appointment by calling the church office.

We need the following foods by November 18:
250 boxes of stuffing mixes
1000 canned corn
1000 canned green beans
1000 canned fruit

Thanks again for your help,
Pastor Keith

Legacy Project!

Hi all,
As we discussed at the retreat, there is a component to Leadership Lake Oswego in which you give back to your community.  Attached is a link to view the flyer from last year's legacy project - Hop at the Hunt -  as well as some pictures.  We would love to hand this project down to you as a continuing community event in Lake Oswego.  There will be additional opportunities to discuss this during our monthly classes.  See you on October 21st!

Community Service Opportunities

Hi all,
We had a wonderful time at the retreat!  I will be uploading some pictures of your adventures in a few days.  For now, please check out the following Community Service Opportunities!

We received the following from former LOL student, Sid Sin (please note that the survey closes tomorrow):

My name is Sidaro Sin and I was in Leadership about three years ago….time just flies.

I had a project that I thought the leadership class might be interested in.  I’m the project manager for the City’s Comprehensive Plan (Plan) update.  The Plan is the City’s blueprint for economic development, transportation, parks, housing, etc for the next 25 years.  We currently need residents of LO and people who own a business or land in LO to take the survey.  The results of the survey will be the basis of the City’s vision for the future.

How can Leadership get involved?
1) Short quick involvement - ask members to take the on-line survey (if they’re a resident of LO or own a business/land).  The survey closes on September 26.
Click on the link for the survey (they’re anonymous) and check out the short video.
2)  More of a commitment, but fun and informative - participate in upcoming public meetings:
a)  October 12 & 16 meetings – share results of survey and talk about community values, desired future, strategies to get us there
                b) December meeting – Review 3-5 options of how the city could look based on the vision.
                c)  Many more opportunities

Thanks for your time.

We received the following from 2009 student, Julia Warren:

Hello Leadership Family,

The Lake Oswego Fire Department is holding a very important event on Saturday, October 9th, from 11am-3pm at the Main Fire Station in Lake Oswego to celebrate the Centennial and honor NATIONAL FIRE PREVENTION MONTH.

They will have experienced personnel at various booths to discuss fire safety, rescue, medical, and boat patrol. They will have tours of the Fire Department, the Boat, and a Fire Truck. There will even be a special guest appearance by…(drum roll)… me. We’ll have handouts, stickers, fire hats, anything you will ever need to know about keeping yourself and your family safe.

Kids will love this event! It coincides with the last Farmer’s Market of the year so you can hit both events on the same trip. The Main Fire Station is on 3rd Street and B Avenue, just west of Chuck’s Coffee and north of the Farmer’s Market. Siobhan, know any Troops that would be interested in something like this? I’ve attached the flyer for your review (artist is the poster contest winner).

Spread the word like Wild Fire! Er…then come to the event and learn how to put that fire out.

Julia Warren
