RETREAT!

We had a GREAT time at the Retreat, and really enjoyed getting to know a lot of you better. We couldn't have asked for better weather, and it was fun to watch you all grow together as a class and as a team! As we mentioned at Tilikum, we will try to update this blog with information each month so you have an idea as to what is coming up. If you have any special events or other items you think would benefit the class, please send us the information to the leadership email account and we'll see about posting it on this blog.

Enjoy your weekend and we can't wait to see you again on October 20th!

Community Service Opportunity - April 30th

Hello!

I am looking for some volunteers for our Drug Take-Back Event next Saturday (April 30,  10am-2pm, at the Adult Community Center). I am hoping we can get a few people from the Leadership Class.

I’ve attached the press release for more information as well.

Have people just contact me, if they are able to help (or if they have questions about the event).

Thanks much!

April Agenda!

We are pleased to present the April Agenda!  There are many exciting surprises in store for you this month courtesy of some pretty amazing day chairs.  Be advised that we will not have a bus, and you will need to travel from Marylhust University back to Lake Oswego via your personal car.  Also, please plan to wear comfortable shoes and "retreat style" clothing for the day, as we will be very active in the afternoon.  We are looking forward to seeing you on April 21st!

Awesome Community Event!

Saturday, May 7, 2011: If you’re driving through Lake Oswego on Saturday May 7, 2011…or feel like running a race through it…then you’re probably interested in this information. Feel free to forward this email to anyone you think may find it useful.
The official website for the Lake Run is http://www.racecenter.com/lakerun/
Several of you may be familiar with an annual event in Lake Oswego, called The Lake Run. This year The Lake Run is being held on Saturday, May 7, 2011 from about 8am to 1pm. There will be two runs that will affect traffic. The 5k, which begins at 8a, and the 12k, which begins at 8:30a. Most of the roads affected should be entirely open to traffic by 10:30am, with most of the delays occurring between 8am and 9:30am. The Lake Oswego Police Department and certified flaggers will be assisting with closures and traffic control during these two runs.
The kids run that occurs in the Evergreen neighborhood is expected to have a larger turn-out than normal and some changes to the route. When I receive confirmed details, I will make sure to send you all an update.
I have attached a copy of the route map with estimated time delays and closures and will send out a final reminder and any updates near the end of this month. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Main traffic impacts (times listed are estimates and will depend on the speed of the runners);
·         Southbound State Street will be closed at about 7:55a - 8:05a and then again from 8:25a – 8:40a. Northbound lanes will remain open, though left turns/turn lanes will be impacted both directions from about 7:30 to 9. Eastbound A Avenue near State Street will experience backup.
·         Iron Mountain will have one lane closed from 8am-11am and a pilot car will lead vehicles from Berwick to Summit and then from Summit to Berwick until all lanes reopen (waiting period for pilot car is about 10-15 minutes)
·         Southshore will close both directions at Greentree and Palisades from about 8:15 am – 9 am to allow runners to cross.
·         Southshore will close both directions at Westview from about 8:45a – 9:15a. Other roads on Westview will be impacted.
·         Eastbound Lakeview will be closed from about 8:50a – 9:20a from Southshore to Summit. Westbound Lakeview will remain open, though left turns will be impacted.
·         Summit will be impacted from about 9a to 9:30a until the bulk of the runners have cleared the narrow road.

Open House for Luscher!

On April 21, 2011 the Parks and Recreation Department and representatives from MIG Inc. (planning consultant) will host an Open House for the Luscher Area Master Plan. The consultant has developed three site plan alternatives based on the January 22 Design Charette, the comment period following the charette and other background data. The Open House will provide an opportunity for the community to look over the site plans and provide input which will assist in developing the final proposed site plan.

Your participation is important to this process so please come by! This is an unstructured drop in event and occurs Thursday, April 21, 2011 between the hours of 4pm and 7pm at the West End Building (4101 Kruse Way) in the Willamette Room.

Please join us and have some light refreshments and provide the consultant with your input!

Thank you and see you at the event!

Fun Event with Classmate, Tom Hamann!

Hi there,
We told you we would share information on Tom's upcoming performance in case you wanted to enjoy an evening at the theatre!  Here is a message from Tom:
Sara,

I wanted to send you the information on my play so you could send it out if you would like.

There will be three shows (all tickets $3):

Thursday, March 10th, at 6:30 pm
Saturday, March 12th, at 1:00 pm and 6:30 pm

Linwood Elementary
11909 SE Linwood Avenue
Milwaukie

The play is entitled, "The Fabulous Fable Factory," and is a one act musical. The following is the synopsis from the Dramatic Publishing website. http://www.dramaticpublishing.com/p453/The-Fabulous-Fable-Factory/product_info.html

Monroe wanders into a seemingly abandoned factory and accidentally trips a lever which activates the factory "machinery," an assembly line of seven actors who create fabulous fables. Then he meets the factory owner, a Mr. Aloysius A. Aesop, who explains that the factory has been idle for over 2,000 years because of a missing part. Mr. Aesop introduces Monroe to the machinery. Among them are Straucy, the Story Starter; Pluto, the Plot Plotter; Wadsworth, the Word Worker; and Gretel, the Grammar Guardian. The factory proceeds to create and enact stories which become official fables when Monroe himself surprises everyone by supplying the morals. Mr. Aesop and the others are ecstatic over their new-found "Moral Maker." The troupe then performs some of the best of Aesop's fables. Done with bright and charming songs, this show has been successfully produced by numerous stock, school and community groups.

I hope to see you there!
